How'd you sleep last night?
How’d you sleep last night?
2 Corinthians 5:15 and he died for all, that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for him who for their sake died and was raised.
The only person you have to sleep with tonight is you. How’d you sleep last night? You may have wondered about certain people “how do they sleep at night, knowing what they have done all day?” This is especially concerning when the person you are wondering about is a Christian. This is even more alarming when the person of concern is staring back at you in the mirror.
We often admire people who demonstrate integrity and stand up for their principles. Principles are things we are willing to defend vehemently and at times would be willing to die for. If that is the case, then Satan is a person of principle who defends his position with all his might and is willing to let you die for it. Principles are only worth dying for and defending if they are God honoring and not self-promoting. My father gave me many great learning opportunities and skills. The greatest one he modeled was being a God honoring man of principle and integrity. He never compromised those principles even when it cost him promotions and financial gains. We now live in a world where compromise of integrity and self-promoting principles are the norm. Compromise is extremely concerning when it comes to the walk of a Christian and the body of believers. The path of compromise begins with subtle movements away from biblical truth which offends us and is reinforced through the approval of man. This is especially true when it comes to sexual sin. Jesus’ stance on lusting in your heart offends us so we move away from it. Then we receive support from our worldly friends when we make lewd comments about attractive females. Being told living together before marriage is sinful and offends us. So we justify it under the covering of “we love each other” and our worldly friends pat us on the back for standing up for our principles. Compromise begets compromise to the point we don’t look any different than the world.
The good news is our God is the God of restoration. He can and does restore our compromised integrity and principles. When I work with Christian men who are recovering from sexual idolatry, one of the things we discuss is grieving the loss of their compromised integrity and principles. Seeking God’s forgiveness and asking God to restore and empower their God honoring integrity and principles.
How’d you sleep last night? Is God convicting you of your life of compromise? Seek him. He can and will restore the years the locusts have taken.
